Tour of the Alps Is Cancelled This Year
Tour of the Alps which is a warm-up short tour before the Giro D’Italia has been canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Race authorities announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the race which was set for April is canceled with the postponement to the spring of 2021. Recently a post-COVID race calendar was announced but there was no appropriate date for the Tour of the Alps to be set.
For that reason, the race organizers decided to cancel this year’s race while paying attention to the next year’s tour. A post-COVID race calendar will feature mostly world-wide cycling events such as The Vuelta of Spain and Tour de France which were postponed to autumn.
Such massive cycling events carry certain risks for the participants and spectators. For example, The Tour de France will approximate more than twelve million live spectators which is inappropriate in the current situation.
The Tour of the Alps runs through the historic area of Tirol which is located in North Italy and Austria near the Alps mountains. Mountainous terrains and hilly areas challenge the best riders of Europe.
