Manufacturers periodically add new elements or remove obsolete parts, but the key components remain the same. A bicycle consists of the following elements (bike frame parts names):
- the frame, which is the supporting structure that connects the parts into a single system;
- the handlebar and the dependent parts necessary for comfort and better handling;
- the wheels and some other parts;
- the brake system that allows you to stop in time;
- the seat unit, which is responsible for the comfort of the rider;
- the gear shifting system;
- the shock absorbers and suspension.

Bike Frame Anatomy
The frame is the main part that connects the disparate mechanisms into the bicycle. Depending on the type of transport, purpose, and function, the material and shape of the product differ.
Manufacturers prefer to create frames made of steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon because these materials give the best ratio of strength, weight, and cost. Also, the gender of the rider is taken into account when manufacturing: goods for the female audience are made with a lowered upper bar or without it, on men’s – the tube is straight and goes slightly below the saddle.
Bicycle Wheel Parts
Modern bicycles have wheels that include a rim, spokes, hub, tire, and tube. These are the key parts that allow the vehicle to move in different conditions. Depending on the diameter and thickness of the wheel, speed, stability, and rideability vary. The size also affects traction, which is why it is recommended to have several sets of wheels for riding in different seasons.
Parts of a Bike: Gear System
The shifter is the part of the gear system designed to change speed and torque. The gear shift is controlled by the shift knob. It is a mechanism for remotely shifting bicycle gears and is attached to the handlebar for ease of use. Depending on the situation, you can shift up or down a gear. Shifts can be lever-operated (two levers are used to change gears) or rotary (a special ring attached to the handlebar is used to change gears by turning it back and forth).
Parts of a Bike: Pedal
Sometimes bicycles are delivered without pedals. It is up to the cyclist to decide on the type of pedals he needs. These are specially shaped products that provide a platform for the feet, transmitting muscular force to the crank and further to the rear wheel. Depending on the type of two-wheeled vehicles there is a distinction between contact and non-contact pedals. The first variety is used by professional athletes and works in conjunction with special shoes, which are equipped with mounts. Contact pedals provide a secure connection, preventing your foot from slipping off the platform in high humidity or other difficult conditions. The second type is mounted on “usual” models. Non-contact pedals are made of metal, plastic, and other materials. At the point of coupling with the sole pedals are made with a ribbed surface or anti-slip pads, to improve the connection.

The fork is one of the basic elements of a bicycle. It is attached to the frame, and the front wheel and handlebar stem are attached to it accordingly. The fork is often equipped with a shock absorber to help you comfortably ride over bumps in the road. It comes in two types – rigid and shock-absorbing.
